Before I quit my secure, high-profile banking job to become a technology entrepreneur, I was unsure and uncertain for months. I kept pushing the decision because I wanted to feel “ready” before taking the plunge.
Until one day, I concluded that I could not keep looking out for the right time. The feeling of wanting to be ready was imaginary, and time would never make me ready. Making a move would, and I had to make the move.
Much after I made the move and settled down in my new avatar, I came across these wise words by Elizabeth Gilbert ( of the Eat, Pray, Love fame), who said, “A plan executed imperfectly now is better than a plan meticulously executed never.”
When pursuing your long-term dreams, you will always feel as if you are not ready. Your mind will try to convince you that you need to save a little more money or do some more research or wait for some more time before you make a move.
Let the words of Elizabeth Gilbert act as a source of encouragement to you. There is no such thing as a perfect time. There is only NOW, and it is as perfect a time as any to start whatever it is that you have been putting off for some time now.
It is always the scariest just before you make the jump to start something. If you want that fear to go away, you just need to get started NOW.
A journey of a thousand miles always begins with the first single step. Take it.
